What a lane is

A lane is narrower than a generic category and broader than one product. Examples include founder validation tools, self-serve devtools, solo-founder SaaS, and consumer habit trackers.

What stays fixed

  • Buyer dispositions, segment weights, skepticism levels, and evaluation context.
  • The panel used for peer benchmarks and customer pages in the same lane.
  • The goal type used to interpret intent, such as purchase, signup, download, subscribe, or demo request.

Why it matters

Fixed panels make peer percentiles more meaningful. They also make A/B and competitor comparisons cleaner because every option faces the same buyer mix.
